"Ancient city; layers of history and awe as sneakers meet time-worn stone; vespas vibrate, tower bells toll deep and resonate. Inspired writers inspiring deep conversations and shared laughter. Space to think and play, time to feel, to be.
Delectable food, Chianti galore, new friendships unfold. All told, a wonderful week in Tuscany!
Food pacing of the material covered. Lucinda Halpern is wonderful; friendly, knowledgeable and accessible. Jules is terrific, too!
Go for it Jane! You are organized and fun, and on-site experiencing everything first hand, so if anything needed attention you were on it right there and then.
I loved meeting everyone! Learning about their backgrounds and stories. Getting to know each other during workshop time and during the many events together.
Thank you for all the tours, reception, dinners, the cooking class, as well as introducing us to the lovely hotel! Really fun ways to share our free time together."

"The best retreats do two things: help you remember yourself, and help you imagine a new future. Jane's writers retreat in Florence did both.
From the moment we arrived, we were in exceptionally good hands. Jane is the kind of host who makes everything feel effortless - her experience is matched only by her luminous presence. The hotel was superb, the dinners beautifully orchestrated, and the location perfection.
What set this retreat apart was its spaciousness. The schedule breathed. There was room to think, to wander, to actually write - something rarer than it should be. I spent the week alongside Lucinda Halpern of Lucinda Literary, learning, expanding, laughing, and creating in ways I didn't expect.
If you're looking for a retreat designed with real intention and genuine care - whatever brings you there - Jane is your person."

"There are experiences you enjoy…and then there are those rare experiences that stay with you-that imprint themselves on your soul in a profound way! This retreat in Florence was the latter—and that is entirely because of Jane.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was not simply a well executed and elegant retreat space. It was something far more intentional. Jane brings a rare blend of warmth and intuition, the kind that makes you feel immediately seen, welcomed, and at ease-even in an unfamiliar country in the midst of a group of strangers. She has an extraordinary ability to anticipate needs before they are spoken, and to hold space in a way that feels both grounding and expansive.
Every detail of the retreat was thoughtfully and beautifully curated. The hotel was perfectly situated, allowing us to experience the heart of Florence in its art and richness while still feeling like we had a sanctuary to return to. Everything we wanted to see or experience being only a 5-10 minute walk away. Our meeting space was equally ideal—inviting, inspiring, and conducive to both creativity and connection. We wanted for nothing!
And then there were the experiences: the breakfast gatherings and beautiful dinners, the cooking class, the private museum tours with brilliant (and funny) Italian historians. The shared moments that can’t quite be replicated or scripted. There was a kind of magic woven into each of them. Certainly not by chance, but by care and heart! By intention! By Jane’s unmistakable devotion to creating something meaningful-something that isn’t written in her itinerary or brochure that ends up being priceless!
What stood out most was the feeling that ran through every single day: nothing was accidental. Every element was considered, shaped, and offered with genuine love. And we ALL felt that—consistently, quietly and deeply in our own way!
Jane doesn’t just host retreats. She creates environments where people can arrive fully, connect authentically, and experience something long lasting. It is rare to encounter someone who brings this level of presence and heart to their work.
This was, without question, one of the most exceptional experiences I’ve had and one I will carry with me for a lifetime. In the friendships I made, the experiences I had and the exposure to the magic of Florence and Jane Reeves!"

"Magical
Well, frankly, I was very curious as to how “retreat” and “culinary adventure” would marry, and they did, seamlessly. Not unlike the perfect emulsion of ingredients in a Hollandaise, everything came together in a way that felt both effortless and extraordinary.
Jane Reeves (with her husband Jesse) brought her deep experience and passion for creating Tuscan retreats to life in a way that made the entire experience unforgettable. From the very beginning, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully curated.
What began as a group of strangers quickly became a true familia by the end.
The experience was rich and layered : olive oil tastings, wine tastings, cooking with Florentine chefs, learning the essentials of fresh pasta making, and exploring the magnificence of Florence, complete with a delightful panettone tasting. I learned so much.
Jane’s personal selection of guides and experiences was exceptional, and the entire retreat flowed with ease, warmth, and intention. Staying at the beautiful San Firenze Suites made it all the more special.
The eating, the drinking, the learning, every moment felt meaningful and memorable.
Grazie mille, Jane and Jesse, for this incredible gift."

"Simply a dream come true and treasured for a lifetime
The care, attention, and communication from Jane Reeves, Vita Bella Retreats, and her team before the tour began were impeccable, and that same level of thoughtfulness carried through the entire journey.
Stepping off the plane into Florence was a mesmerizing sensory symphony. The lodging at San Firenze Suites & Spa, located in the heart of the city, was perfectly situated, top notch, and the staff spoiled us daily.
The retreat itself was intimate, personal, and beautifully curated. Jane ensured that each guest’s needs were met with grace and ease, whether planned or unexpected. Life and travel happen, and everything was handled seamlessly.
The experiences were exceptional: thoughtfully paced tours, hands on cooking classes, olive oil tastings, wine experiences, and meaningful cultural immersion, all balanced with time to rest or explore on our own. Never once did we feel rushed or herded.
The guides were outstanding, bringing the history of Florence and Italy to life in a way that deepened our appreciation for the art, architecture, food, wine, and culture. Their warmth, humor, and passion truly embodied la dolce vita.
The cooking experiences were approachable, rewarding, and delicious, even for those of us who thought pasta making might be intimidating. And the culinary discoveries, from extraordinary meals to the complexity of olive oil, were eye opening and unforgettable.
Every restaurant offered incredible food, wine, and a true sense of Italian culture. There was something for everyone. We have never felt so full, not just of amazing food, but of joy, connection, and life.
Traveling in December added an extra layer of magic. There was beautiful weather, fewer crowds, music, lights, and a golden quality of light that transformed the city throughout the day.
Vita Bella Retreats and Jane Reeves are the finest boutique retreat experience we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. We wholeheartedly recommend: do not hesitate, sign up and go."

"This retreat was a perfect time to paint, enjoy time with my friends, and savor delicious local cuisine. I loved learning new skills and meeting new people. Kato is a great teacher and a wonderful person and was always there to help and with such a great vibe.
Bri was always there, taking care of everything and making sure we had what we needed. She's a very kind and helpful person.
I’m taking home new friendships and new ways to paint. The setting was beautiful, and the studio we painted in was perfect. The group size was just right. If I could suggest anything, it would be to have a bit more variety at breakfast, but overall, I had an amazing experience."

"This retreat was truly a dream of a lifetime. Painting with Kato was one of the most meaningful moments for me. She’s an incredible teacher who pushes you out of your comfort zone in a way that brings out your unique personality and creativity. She’s hands down the best art teacher I’ve ever had!
The food was excellent, though I’d personally appreciate a bit more variety with vegetables (less spinach!) and more fish, as there was a lot of meat. Bri was great about asking for adjustments, and they were very accommodating.
The pace of the retreat was perfect: Pienza was a lovely day out, a great balance of activities and rest. Bri was fantastic throughout, always available without being intrusive, and made the experience so enjoyable.
I’m leaving with wonderful memories, new friends, and a sense of connection with the group. The setting was peaceful, and the group was a wonderful mix of like-minded people. I had an amazing time."

The pace was just right for painting, relaxing, and sharing meals with the group. Bri was incredibly supportive and kept us informed throughout. "This retreat was an excellent opportunity to learn and practice painting techniques with Kato. Sitting in the barn, painting while gazing at the stunning Tuscan hills, was one of the most meaningful moments for me. Kato shared her endless talent in a pleasant and informative way, bringing new techniques and color each day.
I loved the accommodations with its own bathroom and cozy living area. The meals were excellent, and Alfredo’s wine and food knowledge made everything even better. All the staff were very accommodating.
The area was beautiful, peaceful, and serene—each day felt like a joy. Bri was such a delight, always smiling and so helpful, from arrival to departure. She handled everything with ease and truly went above and beyond. She’s an incredible asset to the team!

"This retreat was an opportunity to explore colour, relax, and learn in a supportive environment, part of my journey of lifelong learning and self-care as a newly retired individual. I loved sharing our art with each other, Donatella’s visit to the studio on the last day, and daily walks in the surrounding woods. Kato is amazing; she breaks things down into manageable pieces so it never feels overwhelming and creates a safe space to explore self-expression and fun. The villa was relaxing, the food excellent, and the staff so friendly and helpful. I liked the gentle pace of the week and having time to walk every day. Bri was great once we arrived, and the group dynamic was fabulous: supportive, interesting, and full of warmth. I’m heading home relaxed, pleased, and ready to keep learning with new skills to practice."

"The memory of Italy lingers over time and calls for my return to Fattoria Del Colle and Vita Bella Retreats.
Grazie Mille to Marion Roach Smith of The Memoir Project for her integrity and invaluable insights shared through her unique workshop: Finding Memoir in Your Life Story held with Jane Reeves and Vita Bella Retreats.
Grazie Mille to Jane Reeves of Vita Bella Retreats for her kindness, thoughtful organization, great enthusiasm and ideal scheduling of events at Fattoria Del Colle with excursions off property to neighboring villages for everyone in attendance to enjoy.
To all of the in-house staff, farmers, chefs, and those working behind the scenes to bring Vita Bella Retreats at Fattoria Del Colle alive for guests and workshop attendees to enjoy, I share my respect and appreciation here, with you.
The natural sense of wonder that is born in seeing the grape vineyards growing. Birds singing in the olive trees. The grace and good humor of the local people.
That is the beauty of Tuscany and the inspiration to begin a first essay utilizing Marion Roach Smith's Finding Memoir in Your Life Story workshop structure on the flight back to the US.
I am grateful to be alive."

"Going to a retreat in Tuscany seemed like a fantasy. Doing so on a farm and vineyard while learning from the fabulous Marion Roach Smith was a dream I am still waking up from. I know it happened because so much has stayed and will stay with me forever, especially Marion’s generous style and all she sought to impart during our time together. Her commitment, sense of humor, connection to students, and genuine desire for us to absorb all we could is unlike any other learning experience I’ve had. Indeed, as Marion notes: “Memoir is the single greatest portal to self-discovery!”
Thanks to Jane at Vita Bella Retreats and her engaging and welcoming partners at Fattoria Del Colle near the medieval village of Trequanda, a group of us had an incredible opportunity to experience an idyllic 16th-century estate led by the pioneering Donatella Cocinelli, whose Tuscan wineries are renowned both for their wines and for the women who run them. From a wine history tour replete with fun facts and excellent wines to making the local pasta called pici with the engaging chefs and other team members to eating exquisite Tuscan meals, some of them from the recipes of Tuscan Nonna’s, we had a most immersive experience.
Thanks again, Jane, for your passion for la Bella Italia and your recommendations and guides, including ones that led me to outstanding tours and the superb hotel Eitch Borromini, along with its two terrace restaurants, masterful views, and glorious food.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate life than to give ourselves the gift of time for reflection, for connection with nature, and, in my case, for continued spiritual growth. To cap it all off, I found myself in the right place at the perfect time to see the new pope, the Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV. "

"My week in Tuscany was everything I hoped for. Starting with the learning, Marian Roach Smith is a brilliant and engaging teacher and coach. Her methods are based on a lifetime of hard work and success. She makes the concepts of writing good memoir understandable and kept the instruction fun and surprising. The workshop drew a smart, focused, and friendly group of writers who got excited about the material and weren’t above helping each other along. The setting was idyllic. Every direction you looked there was a beautiful vista. The facilities were just right, not luxurious but not primitive either. It felt like old world history was at hand, right there alongside the wi-fi and our laptops. Jane was the ideal cruise director, always at hand without hovering, while anticipating and facilitating our every need along the way. So glad I made the trip."

"I recently had one of the most delightful experiences of my life at Fattoria Del Colle. It was a memoir writing retreat led by world renowned memoir coach and author Marion Roach Smith, hosted by Jane Reeves of Vita Bella Retreats. We were on a working farm and vineyard tucked away in the breathtaking hills of Tuscany. Our accommodations were cozy and comfortable in rustic buildings. We were working in a converted barn with windows on all sides, so we were surrounded by gorgeous views. The chef made us incredible meals of traditional Tuscan cuisine, and of course, they included fresh, homemade pasta. It was great that we got to help make the pasta ourselves. I loved the class time as well. The class was engaging and productive and inspirational! Marion was great, more than anything, it was FUN thanks to her unique sense of humor. Jane was the perfect host, and was full of helpful tips. She knows the area really well and was an indispensable source of information and help with anything we needed. She was not deterred when one of the guests got Covid. They made some adjustments so that we all remained healthy and minor disruptions to our plans. I encourage you to go on any retreat with her. You will not be disappointed."

"What does Jane know? Jane knows how to run a retreat.
From getting us there with a chartered bus from and back to the Rome airport, to selecting the site, the all-inclusive Fattoria Del Colle, plus a mid-week field trip to Pienza (an UNESCO world heritage site) we were all set. It was wonderful to know the meals and accommodations were arranged beforehand, so we could concentrate on our writing workshop with the experienced and generous leader, Marion Roach Smith. Would I go again? Yes. Yes, I would."
